Thandie Newton Shares Beauty Tips, Talks Plastic Surgery

Thandie Newton, one of the most exquisite presences on the scene right now, is also one of the few actresses to publicly swear off plastic surgery. In a new interview with Hello, Thandie also dishes some of beauty tips and tricks.

Though she's almost 40, Thandie has never made headlines for rumors she may have had work done to her face. She would never consider surgery, she tells the celebrity mag or, at least, not as long as she plans to act.

From what she's saying, she has no plans of retiring either.

In an industry that's putting increasing pressure on its stars to look “perfect” at all times, Newton values expressiveness and beauty that is as far from “perfect” as possible: the kind that also denotes character.

“I’ll be 40 this year, but honestly would not consider surgery; all my beauty icons are women with expressive faces. Isabelle Huppert ages so beautifully and gracefully, as have Maggie Smith and Judi Dench. I am struck by their expressive beauty,” the star says.

What Thandie does do is take proper care of her skin: as a mother of two, she hardly wears makeup while running errands and dropping kids to school, and she makes sure she catches up on lost sleep whenever she can.

Thandie swears by Olay as well.

“Generally, I am low maintenance, but during the run of the play I had to wear a lot of eye make-up, which meant using a great cleaner. I apply Neal’s Yard Rose Beauty Balm, work it in, then remove it with a flannel rinsed with warm water. It dissolves everything,” she says.

“After that I just need a few dabs of Olay moisturiser. I have combination skin, so I apply it just the dry areas. My mum used Olay when I was called Oil Of Olay and she has beautiful skin, so now I use it,” the actress explains.

Normally, she doesn't wear makeup so she sees no need to cleanse in the morning, opting instead to just splash water on the face, pat it dry and let the “natural oils [her] skin produces” do the rest of the work for her.

“Then I apply a dab of rouge and I’m off. When I am a mum on the school run I don’t wear make-up at all,” Newton says.

The actress also reveals she adds a bit of turmeric to foundation that is too ashy or too pale, because it adds a touch of color and is also anti-inflammatory.
