US Cellular HTC Flyer Honeycomb Upgrade Now Available for Download

Made official more than a year ago, HTC Flyer was launched on the market in May 2011 with Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread platform onboard.

However, the Taiwanese handset maker promised its first (and only) tablet would receive a major operating system upgrade in the following months.

Unfortunately, it’s been more than a year since the Flyer is out on the market and HTC has yet to offer the promised upgrade in some regions.

Today, US Cellular has announced that a Honeycomb upgrade for the Flyer is now available for download via HTC’s support site.

Keep in mind that the update is only available via HTC Sync desktop software, which can be downloaded and installed by Windows users with ease. Mac users however, will have to head over to the nearest US Cellular retail location in order to complete the upgrade.

The update is about 153MB in size and brings a slew of new features and enhancements, which are meant to improve the overall experience of the users. We recommend HTC Flyer owners to back up all their sensitive data prior to flashing the new update.

HTC has already confirmed that all personal data and customizations will be deleted from the tablet during the update process, including E-Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Applications, Personalization and Browser bookmarks. All data stored on the memory card, such as pictures, music and videos, will remain safe.

On a side note, this may be the last major update that HTC is going to push to HTC Flyer tablet. The company is unlikely to deliver an Android 4.0 upgrade in the future, so customers may want to turn to other brands in case they wish to take advantage of all the capabilities offered by Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich platform.

For more details on the requirement of the upgrade head over to HTC’s support site.
