After the failure that was the first release of Final Fantasy XIV, the long-awaited massively multiplayer online role-playing game from Square Enix, the Japanese company has announced a redesigned version of the title called Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Final Fantasy XIV was initially set to appear on the PC and then, after a period of testing, on the PlayStation 3.
The problems were so severe that the company then confirmed that it was going to re-release the MMORPG in an overhauled version 2.0.
Now, Square Enix has released the first details about this new edition of the game, called Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.
“Square Enix announced today the fully-redesigned, massively multiplayer online adventure Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Previously referenced as 'version 2.0,' this title has been rebuilt from the ground up, and centers on the core concept of rebirth, featuring a new world to explore and storyline to experience,” the company said.
The new game will be released both on the PC as well as on the PlayStation 3 at some point in time.
“Since announcing our plans for the future of the title last October, we have been working tirelessly to include all of the elements that we have promised in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. This new title not only becomes a symbol of a completely new Final Fantasy XIV, but also marks the beginning of a new stage as the latest title in the Final Fantasy series. I hope you’re looking forward to it!” said Naoki Yoshida, producer/director of Final Fantasy XIV.
Not a lot of other details are known as of yet, but Square Enix did post three screenshots and a video with the new online game, so expect to hear more about it soon enough.
