He's always been known for his ripped and tanned physique but, these days, Matthew McConaughey is looking slimmer and sicklier than ever. He's losing weight for a new role, it has emerged.
The other night, Matthew and wife Camila Alves, who is now pregnant with their third child, walked the red carpet at the premiere of “Killer Joe,” his latest film, in which he plays a gun for hire.
“The normally beefy Texan has lost over 15lbs [6.8 kg] already and is planning to lose another 15 to play an HIV patient in his new film,” the British tabloid reports.
“Wearing a blue suit last night, the 42-year-old’s face was thinner and he had lost his usual muscley frame. His slim physique was a far cry from the rippled muscles he sported on his latest release Magic Mike,” the same publication notes.
The film in question is called “The Dallas Buyer's Club” and doesn't go into production until September, which means Matthew has plenty of time to lose the rest of the weight to play the part in a most convincing manner.
The Mail also has a quote from Matthew himself, presumably a comment made during promotion for “Magic Mike,” in which he confirmed he was on a diet to lose weight.
His secret weapon? Tea, it would seem.
“I’m losing some weight. I’ve got a role coming up in the middle of September. I’ve lost about 15 pounds, I’ve gotta lose about 15 more,” he is quoted as saying.
“I am drinking a lot of tea. It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you’re not going to give it something else from the outside,” Matthew added.
