Weekend Reading: Diablo 3 Exploits Are Bound to Appear

It’s been a pretty busy week for Blizzard, as the developer behind Diablo 3 has been forced to release quite a few hotfixes in order to solve several exploits uncovered by players, which made their characters invulnerable or gave them continuous abilities.

At first, we were treated with a special glitch concerning Wizard characters, who could become invulnerable if a certain number of powers were used in quick succession. After that, players with Barbarian characters uncovered a continuous Life Leech ability that was triggered by attacking something before a cutscene.

Both these exploits gave players a drastic advantage, as they were easily able to complete even the toughest Inferno difficulty setting, thereby getting all sorts of loot, which could then be sold on either the in-game gold Auction House or the Real-Money Auction House.

Blizzard has since patched both these vulnerabilities but, unfortunately for the developer, more exploits are bound to be uncovered sooner or later.

This is owed largely to the Auction House mechanic, as many players are trying out all sorts of methods in order to make “farming” loot as easy as possible.

Already many nefarious individuals use bots and different cheats in order to gain unfair advantages, despite Blizzard’s harsh stance on such things, so it’s safe to assume that they aren’t shy about using any and all exploits in their endeavors.

Given the tempting nature of the Auction House, which can be used to sell the loot for either in-game gold or actual cash, this won’t stop anytime soon, as there are plenty of eager players who’d rather just buy better gear, either with virtual or real currency, so a profit can always be made by good or evil-natured sellers.

Hopefully, for the balance of the game and for the good of players who work hard in order to uncover loot, Blizzard will keep the game as free of exploits as possible.
