Apple Stocking Components for iPhone 5s September Launch

Cupertino-based Apple is reportedly gearing up for the unveiling of its next-generation iPhone on September 12, followed by initial availability in a handful of countries on September 21.

No official announcement on the matter has been made as of now, but more reports on this have started to emerge, coming from different sources.

Yesterday, we stumbled upon the first such rumor, coming from iMore, and another one is out on the web, coming from AllThingsD.

The news site claims that sources familiar with Apple’s plans confirmed that the company was preparing an event for the week of September 9.

They also note that Wednesday was said to be the most likely day when the event would be held, which falls in line with the aforementioned rumored September 12 announcement.

While no details on what the event might be all about have been provided, the launch of iPhone 5 seems most likely to occur on that day, based on the company’s history with the device.

That this launch is near is also confirmed by the fact that Apple has been stocking up inventory components lately. There is an important increase in prepayments for the inventory that cannot be dismissed.

Apple’s latest 10-Q filling shows the same thing, AllThingsD reports. The company announced that prepayment for inventory components went up $1.15 billion sequentially in the June quarter.

According to Wells Fargo Securities analyst Maynard Um, this shows that the September launch will be a big one, and the next iPhone would be the only product to fit the bill.

iPhone 5 was long rumored to be en-route to shelves with a larger screen when compared to its predecessors, as well as with a slightly modified look.

It would pack a smaller, 19-pin connector at the bottom, with the headphone jack next to it, as well as a metal plate on the back.
