Day Z Might Be Standalone Before Christmas

The creator of the very popular Day Z mod for ArmA II has said that he is interested in launching a standalone version launched before Christmas, with a price that allows all those interested to get into the experience and a number of new mechanics and added content.

Dean Hall, who is the creator of the Day Z mod, has told VG247 that, “I want to see it become a standalone game, following the Minecraft model of a low price point, but that will only work if we say that everyone is going to pay.”

He added, “In order for people to not feel ripped off we need to have a load of new content; so, things like base-building, tidying and cleaning up animations and add ragdoll physics as the like.”

Before Hall can actually work on the standalone version of Day Z, he needs to reach an agreement with Bohemia Interactive, the company that created the military simulation ArmA II, to use the core game technology.

He also needs to get a partner that can handle the distribution of the new standalone product.

The developer says he has had a number of offers, although he would not disclose the companies involved.

Day Z has close to one million players and has led to a spike in sales for the core ArmA II game package.

The mod throws the player in a world dominated by zombies, with limited resources, and allows them to do anything in their power to survive, from battling the hordes and exploring cities to simply killing other survivors in order to get their gear.

At the moment, Bohemia Interactive is working on ArmA III, a new version of the military simulation, set to deliver even bigger battlefields and a number of new options linked to firefights.
