Plextors M5S Series SSDs Officially Launched with Impressive Performance

Every SSD enthusiast was impressed by the Plextor M3 Series SSDs. The company is now officially launching the new M5S Series of drives in the western world. The M5S Series are powered by the same 88SS9174 Marvell controller just like the M3 product line.

The new series are manufactured by Philips & LITE-ON Digital Solutions (PLDS) Taiwan, but it uses Plextor custom designed firmware and will come complete with Plextor’s useful SSD software tools.

There are three models presented: the smallest drive is the PX-64M5S featuring a 64GB capacity, the next one comes with 128 GB of Micron-made NAND called PX-128M5S, and the largest model is called PX-256M5S and features 256 GB of flash.

It seems like Plextor has chosen Micron as the new NAND provider for its new M5S Series instead of Toshiba, that made the flash chips used in the well-known M3 Series.

The pricing is officially rated at $100 (81 EUR) for the 64 GB version, $160 (130 EUR) for the 128 GB model and $300 (245 EUR) for the 256 GB drive.
