There's a new reality show in the works and chances are it will be even more controversial than some airing right now. It's called Extreme Parenting and comes from the same man who brought us Dance Moms and Bridezillas.
The brainchild of Jeff Collins, president of Collins Avenue Productions, the idea for the new show came to be after Collins saw how people reacted to the controversial TIME Magazine cover showing a woman breastfeeding her 4-year-old son as part of what is known as attachment parenting.
“That [Time magazine] cover proves what I've been saying for the last year – America has become a country of extremes,” Collins says for the e-zine.
“I think it's so fascinating that some Americans find the image of woman breastfeeding to be provocative, shocking, […] when, in fact, it's the most natural thing in the world,” he adds.
By offering a look behind the curtain, by revealing to the world other non-traditional practices, Collins hopes the new show will encourage more openness on the topic: parenting can be great without following the same mold we're used to.
“Breastfeeding beyond infancy is just one of the topics we plan to cover. We've discovered people are raising kids in all kinds of un-traditional ways these days and some people find their methods to be extreme,” Collins says.
“When you watch any of my shows you can see a common thread – I'm interested in peeling back the curtain to look at choices other people make that will have a huge impact on their children or their lives,” he adds.
However, don't expect Extreme Parenting to be another Dance Moms, which is perhaps the most criticized reality show of the bunch, mostly because of the way mothers treat their kids in front of the cameras.
Collins promises this will be different.
For the time being, Extreme Parenting doesn't have a network but Collins is certain it will find one quickly the moment a pilot is done.
