Halo 4 will receive downloadable missions after its launch in the form of the Spartan Ops ones that, according to developer 343 Industries, will take place six months after the story ends.
Halo 4 is set to deliver a brand new chapter in the adventures of protagonist Master Chief and opens a new trilogy of games in the popular Xbox 360-exclusive franchise.
Now, after spotting some more details about the Spartan Ops downloadable missions through a leaked document, 343 Industries’ David Berger has talked with VG247 about the new missions and revealed that their action will take place six months after the events from the game’s story mode.
“With [Spartan Ops] being such a story-driven mode, it’s something we really wanted to be able to really push the fiction forward with after the launch of the game,” said Berger.
“It takes place about six months after the events of the campaign, but as you’ve seen in the cut-scene [shown at the Microsoft E3 press conference] the Infinity features in also the campaign. So we have some ties in the story between the two.”
Last week the first concrete details about Halo 4’s Spartan Ops mode appeared, saying that the first content season would see the release of 50 new missions across 10 weeks, which add a total of 12 hours of new gameplay to the first-person shooter. What’s more, these 50 new missions will be completely free.
This Spartan Ops mode will allow the team at 343 to push the story forward and set up things for the next full-fledged installments in the franchise.
“With months of content of that style so that we can really push the story and fiction forward after launch. And that’s all part of the game,” Berger added.
Halo 4 is out on November 6, exclusively for the Xbox 360.
