Apple Now Accepting OS X Mountain Lion Apps

Cupertino has issued an email to all registrants of the Apple Developer Program notifying them that the Mac App Store is now accepting Mountain Lion submissions.

Apple asks developers to make sure their apps take advantage of the new stuff made available in Mountain Lion, as the company prepares to ship its ninth major Mac OS.

“Make sure your apps take advantage of the great new features in OS X Mountain Lion when the world’s most advanced operating system ships to millions of customers worldwide,” says the Mac maker.

Developers are told to pick up on the latest OS X and Xcode builds to finalize their apps and have them ready for submission to the Mac App Store.

“Download OS X Mountain Lion GM seed and Xcode 4.4 GM seed, now available on the Mac Dev Center. Build your apps with these latest seeds, then test and submit for review,” Apple adds.

iPhone and iPad developers are targeted by the email as well. Xcode lets them leverage new features that go cross-platform between iDevices and Macs, such as Game Center:

“You can also submit iOS apps that take advantage of the new cross-platform Game Center Groups, so they’ll be available when OS X Mountain Lion ships,” Apple says.

Game Center, Apple’s social gaming network from iOS, is coming to the Mac in OS X Mountain Lion. Users will be able to enjoy live, multiplayer games with their friends and family, regardless of the platform they choose.

Apple has confirmed that OS X Mountain Lion would be available this month from the Mac App Store for $19.99 (US) / €16. The upgrade requires OS X Lion or Snow Leopard (OS X v10.6.8 or later), 2GB of memory and 8GB of available storage space.
