Ubisoft Says Wii U Will Surprise Gamers

The Nintendo Wii U does not yet have a clear launch date, but a number of analysts have already predicted that the new home console will fail and will be an embarrassment to the Japanese company.

Yves Guillemot, the chief executive officer at Ubisoft, does not agree and he tells Gamasutra that, “I think Nintendo has very often surprised us, so you never know. I think they've created something good, if the customer uses everything they have created, I think we can see a good success with that machine.”

“That type of collaboration can be fun and also challenging at the same time. It's something has never been done before. Those guys are taking lots of risks with the games they create -- and they're extremely successful,” he then argues.

Ubisoft is one of the publishers that has found third-party success on both the first generation of the Wii and on the DS line of handhelds and it seems that the company also has solid plans for the Wii U.

One of the most interesting titles for the platform that were shown during E3 2012 is ZombiU, which combines different types of gameplay for the players in charge of the touch screen controller and for the one who is using a regular controller.

Ubisoft has also shown Assassin’s Creed III running on the Wii U, which is a move designed to show the graphical abilities of the new console.

Despite the Wii U hype, the leader of Ubisoft says that the company is also ready to work with both Sony and Microsoft in order to design games for their own next-generation devices.

Guillemot also mentions, “Nintendo is very family oriented. It's a different demographic, so we can't say one machine will be more important than the other.”

The Wii U lacks a launch date or a clear price.
