Sony Mobile officially unveiled the Xperia go back in May with the promise that the smartphone will go on sale in the following months.
Although the Japanese company did not unveil the exact release date of the Xperia go, it appears that the device is now available for pre-order in the UK.
Several leading retailers currently offer customers the chance to pre-purchase the Sony Xperia go for prices ranging between 220 GBP (345 USD or 275 EUR) and 235 GBP (365 USD or 290 EUR) outright.
This is one of the first rugged smartphones in the Xperia 2012 series. In this regard, Sony confirmed the Xperia go as being IP67 certified, dust and water proof (up to 1m for 30 mins) and features scratch-resistant glass coating for the display.
The bad news is that the device will be shipped with Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform onboard, though Sony mentioned that the Xperia go was scheduled to receive an Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade soon after launch.
Hardware-wise, the smartphone comes equipped with ST-Ericsson’s NovaThor U8500 chipset that embeds a 1GHz single-core processor and a Mali-400 graphics processing unit.
Furthermore, the Xperia go packs 512MB of RAM, 8GB (only 4GB user available) of internal memory, as well as microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). There’s also a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording.
It is also worth mentioning that Sony Xperia go is powered by a 1305 mAh Li-Ion battery, which should provide 520 hours of standby time (460 hours in 3G mode) or up to 6.5 hours of talk time (5.5 hours in 3G mode).
