New PlayStation 3 Super Slim Model Leaked via Patent Filing

Sony is preparing to debut a brand new PlayStation 3 model, presumably the oft-rumored Super Slim edition, according to documents filed by the Japanese company with the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S.

The PlayStation 3 made its debut back in 2007 with models that supported backwards compatibility with older PS2 games. Shortly after that, Sony released a new version that didn’t have such feature. After that, in 2009, during the Gamescom expo, the company released a PlayStation 3 Slim edutuib.

Now, a series of documents have been filed at the FCC, spotted by PocketNews, which reveal that a new version is being prepared with the CECH-4001x model number.

No other details are known as of yet but, considering Gamescom 2012 is held next month, it might be possible for Sony to reveal a new version of the PS3, called the Super Slim, which can go on sale right before the winter holiday season.

Sony declined to comment on the report, so fans should wait until August to see if the company has anything to reveal at Gamescom 2012.
