Like it or not, Facebook has become an invaluable resource when it comes to birthdays. After all, who has the time and the resources necessary to remember everyone's birthdays and keep track of all of them. It simply can't be done without Facebook.

What's more, even if you remember the birthday, there's the problem of actually getting your heartfelt wishes to the person celebrating the momentous occasion. Text messages will only get you so far.

Facebook's approach is easy and maybe even fun to use, you get a notification, you post a "happy birthday" message on the person's timeline along with everyone else and that's it, social crisis averted.

If only other social gatherings went down as smoothly. Well, Facebook's been thinking about this and it's come up with the next big thing, wedding notifications.

The new "Weddings and Celebrations" feature makes sure you never miss another wedding again. No, that doesn't mean you'll actually have to go, unless you really have to, rather you'll be able to post a fast and simple congratulatory message and be done with it.

When everyone around you starts tying the knot left and right, you'll more than welcome the feature.

Same goes for baby showers and whatever other mandatory social "celebrations" humans observe. It's such a great feature that it only begs the question, why hasn't Facebook done this sooner?

It spent all that time on the Timeline, which everyone hated as they do every new Facebook feature, when it could have been working on the stuff that really matters to people, things like wedding notifications.

It might have come especially handy on Zuck's own wedding. Well, actually he kept his wedding a secret even from the guests, so scratch that.

"Facebook has become a unique way people share and congratulate friends around exciting life events such as engagements and weddings or the arrival of a child. To make it easier to keep up with these momentous occasions and to ensure you can share in your friends’ joy, we are rolling out a 'Weddings and Celebrations' feature," Facebook explained the need for the feature, as if it needed any explanation.

"Beginning today, special events starting with engagements and weddings will be displayed along with friends’ birthdays when you log into Facebook," it added.
