Paul McCartney Becomes an Advocate for Animal Rights

Environmentalists and conservationists worldwide have been struggling to put an end to the practice of testing cosmetics on animals for quite a long time. It now seems that former Beatles member Paul McCartney has decided to offer his support to this cause.

Thus, the celebrity is to back up the Be Cruelty-Free campaign, which targets cosmetic companies in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Europe, India, New Zealand and the United States.

Said project is initiated by Humane Society International, and it mainly focuses on countries which are not included in the European Union.

Apparently, because the ban against testing cosmetics on animals only applies to EU members, there are still some nations who resort to this cruel practice.

As shocking as it might seems, there are some parts of China and South America where not only is animal testing allowed, but it is explicitly required by the regional legislation.

Testing cosmetics on animals basically means that guinea pigs, mice, rabbits and the like get various experimental chemical compounds injected into their eyes or directly into their blood stream.

In other case, they have these substance spread on their skin, reports Times of India.

The same source informs us that, taken aback by such cruelty, Paul McCartney decided to join in on the fight against animal testing.

As far as this celebrity is concerned, “The ugly truth about testing beauty products on animals is that is causes them unimaginable pain and suffering.”

He further explains that “If every cosmetic tested on rabbits or mice had a photo on the packaging showing these animals with their weeping swollen eyes and inflamed skin, I believe everyone would leave cruelty on the shelf and go for cruelty-free option instead.”

Naturally, the people behind the Be Cruelty-Free campaign are overjoyed by Paul McCartney's decision to publicly support this project, as they hope that his popularity will help raise more awareness with respect to animal rights.
