Motorola DOUBLE V (XT626) Lands in South Korea

This week, mobile phone maker Motorola Mobility and KT Powertel announced the release of a new iDEN device in South Korea, namely the Motorola XT626, which will be marketed as the DOUBLE V.

The new device comes with push-to-talk capabilities, runs under Google’s Android operating system, and offers dual-mode iDEN and 3G capabilities, for increased usage options.

With the new device, users can either select push-to-talk functionality on the iDEN network, or they can take advantage of the features that any Android smartphone has to offer to its users.

Through increased flexibility, the device enables users to make instant phone calls or group talks, and even to take advantage of group text messaging when needed.

At the same time, they can access the Internet on 3G or WiFi networks and enjoy a full Android smartphone experience.

The new Motorola DOUBLE V comes with preloaded applications so that uses can stay in touch with teams and colleagues at all times. Its push-to-talk capabilities extend both over WiFi and iDEN networks, Motorola explains.

“Motorola XT626 offers true communications flexibility with support for both iDEN and 3G networks in one device,” said Greg Page, vice president and general manager, iDEN, Motorola Mobility.

“With the advantages of both push-to-talk and Android-powered smartphone features, Motorola XT626 opens the door to new opportunities for service providers and professionals who need to stay in touch with their teams anytime, anywhere.”

KT Powertel is set to add the new handset to its offering in early July, and it will publish all the necessary info on the handset’s landing and pricing on its website.

Moreover, the new device, which is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread, packs an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with auto focus and LED Flash, as well as a front facing 1.3MP camera for video calling.

It also comes to shelves with 4GB of internal memory (4GB eMMC ROM), and with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32Gb of external storage space (an 8GB memory card included).
