Metrotube Windows Phone App Returns

At the end of last year, Lazyworm Applications Ltd. announced that their Metrotube application would no longer be available for purchase through the Windows Phone Marketplace.

At the time, the company explained that YouTube’s API could not offer support for obtaining high-quality video content, and that they were actually using a workaround the retrieve this content.

However, the company did not see a future for the application then, and decided to pull the plug.

“The apps should remain functional for those who have already installed them however we will be unable to push out any further updates. Of course, you can also continue accessing YouTube videos directly through your web browser,” the company said at the time.

However, it appears that they reviewed the decision, and that the mobile software will soon become available for Windows Phone users once again.

The company was looking to deliver a great YouTube experience that could have been supported by Microsoft and Google, this being the reason for which no video download options were made available for users.

Since no alternative to the aforementioned workaround was found since the app was pulled, the company has finally decided to make the app available for download as free software.

“We don't want to see the project that has consumed a year and half of our lives go to waste like this and so we've decided to re-launch Metrotube for free,” the company notes on its website now.

“We hope the app receives a big enough response from the Windows Phone community justifying the need for Google or Microsoft to show us a little more support.”

Additional info on the matter will become available in the not too distant future, but, for the time being, the software is listed on the company’s website as coming soon. However, since it was already published in the Marketplace, it should start showing up on devices in no time.
