Karbonn to Launch Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Devices in India in September

Indian company Karbonn has just announced the immediate availability of its first Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich tablet, the Smart Tab 1. In addition, the company launched three Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread smartphones.

Surprisingly Karbonn also announced plans to release at least a tablet and a smartphone powered by Google’s latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system.

According to the company, both devices will be released in India in September and will be very affordable in term of price.

Karbonn also mentioned that the smartphone will be known as A25 and will be equipped with a large 4.5-inch capacitive touchscreen display. Unfortunately, there are no details on the phone’s processor, but we guess it will be a dual-core CPU.

The tablet that the Indian company plans to launch in September will be called Karbonn ST4 and will be shipped with a 9.7-inch capacitive touchscreen display that features Corning Gorilla Glass coating for extra protection.

For the time being, Karbonn confirmed the ST4 tablet will be released at an affordable price of Rs 11,000 (200 USD or 160 EUR), but this may be subject to change.

In fact everything related to these two upcoming devices may change, especially given the fact that Google has yet to release the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean source code.

Although the search giant explicitly stated that the Jelly Bean source code will be published in mid-July, anything can happen.

Moreover, Karbonn officials claim that the company will get to work as soon as the source code goes live, but there’s no telling how fast its engineers will be able put everything together.

However, if everything goes according to plan, Karbonn ST4 may be the first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean tablet launched in India, as Asus is rumored to release the Nexus 7 sometime in October. Stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
