LifeWatch Launches Worlds First Healthcare Android Smartphone

Swiss company LifeWatch AG has just announced the upcoming availability of world’s first healthcare smartphone. Dubbed LifeWatch V, the handset will be rolled out globally in the following months.

Although the company did not unveil any details regarding the phone’s availability and pricing options, it is expected to launch the smartphone in initial markets through local partners.

For those who are not familiar with LifeWatch AG, this seems to be one of the leading healthcare technology and solution companies, which is also providing the wireless cardiac monitoring service and home sleep test in the US.

LifeWatch V will be especially built to offer a healthcare solution to customers who prefer Android phones. It will allow patients to self-operate a slew of integrated medical sensors, wellness-related applications, cloud-based services and 24/7 call center support.

By using the barely visible sensors on the phone’s frame, patients as well as health- and wellbeing conscious consumers can track, capture, collect and analyze their health and medical measurements anywhere anytime,” claim the company’s officials.

With LifeWatch V, users can make adjustments to their diets and activities, as well as share the information with a health provider or family member. Users can also analyze the data monitored.

The healthcare smartphone can collect data from ECG, body temperature, blood glucose, heart rate, blood oxygen saturation, body fat percentage and stress levels (heart rate variability). Last but not least, the smartphone can be set to remind users of their drug type, dose and intake time.

Aside from its healthcare features, LifeWatch V is far from being impressive. The smartphone is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and packs a single-core Qualcomm MSM7227Turbo processor.

It also comes with a 4.3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen that supports 480 x 480 pixels resolution and 16 million colors. There’s also a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper and a VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

On the inside, the device embeds 1GB of ROM, 512MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB). Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as built-in GPS are included as well.
