As rumored for some months now, Jennifer Lopez won't be returning for another season of American Idol. Confirmation comes from the star herself in an interview with Ryan Seacrest, which you can find embedded below, at the end of the article.
Only a couple of days ago, Jennifer was still saying that she might or might not return to Idol for the 12th season – and her third.
“When I signed on to Idol, I signed on to do it for one year, and I wound up doing two years because I just fell so in love with the show and everybody there,” Lopez told Seacrest, who is host on the show, as fans must surely know.
It was an amazing, unexpected and terribly moving journey, one that she would cherish for the rest of her life, she said.
“It was such a lovely surprise in my life to do it, but even last year when I had to make the decision it was super tough to decide,” Lopez said.
Sadly, it was a journey that had to come to an end because she had too much on her plate right now and, as she put it, “something's gotta give.”
“I dread a conversation like this. You’re going to make me cry. I honestly feel that just the time has come that I have to get back to doing the other things that I do. That I have put on hold because I love Idol so much!” Jennifer said.
“I have to tell you that when Benny [Medina] and I sat down to talk about it, it was one of the longest business conversations we have ever had in my life. It was pros, cons, good things, bad things, things we have, and responsibilities. It was just back and forth, and at the end of it, of course, it’s just really going to be hard for me to go,” she added.
In other words, Jennifer won't return to Idol because she's busy with other projects right now: she has her own talent competition with ex Marc Anthony, a brand new tour that will require most of her time and energy, her acting career that is starting to take off again and, most importantly, her family as well.
