Google Goes Full Circle with Google+ iPad App

Google is trying to show that it cares about iOS and Android in equal amounts, at least as far as Google+ is concerned. Which is a winning strategy, if it can actually pull it off. Not so long ago, Google introduced a very snazzy new version of the iPhone Google+ app.

It was a great improvement over the existing app, but more importantly, it was a great improvement over the Android app as well. It was the first time iOS users got the goods first.

The updated app landed on Android phones soon after and, at Google I/O, the company also debuted the first tablet app, for Android as well.

The tablet app was used to showcase the Nexus 7, and the other way around, but it also packed all of the other new features introduced at I/O, notably Events.

"In May, we redesigned the Google+ experience for iPhone, adding full bleed photos that fall into place and bold visual elements that bring your stream to life. Today, we’re introducing new features for iPhone and an iPad app that you won’t be able to put down," Google announced.

Which brings us to today when Google debuted the first Google+ app for the iPad. Like the Android version, it's a very visual experience, photos are huge and they take up most of the screen space. It should feel very similar to the Android version, but look even better on 10 inches.

The app also brings Hangouts to the iPad, the perfect home for group video chat. As an added bonus, iPad users can also stream the conversation to their TVs via AirPlay.

Events also makes its debut on iOS, though it's more limited than the Android version. This has to do with permissions and what an app can or can't do on a device. Notably, Party Mode, the centerpiece of Events, is missing, meaning photos won't be automatically shared to the people going to the same event.
