ASUS and Pegatron Post Monthly Revenues

Notebook manufacturers may have gotten mixed results from the second quarter of 2012, but that doesn't mean all brand vendors had a hard time scoring order, as made clear by ASUS and Pegatron.

Pegatron used to be an ASUS subsidiary, but it became a spin-off back in June 2010. The press still seems to like to talk about the two together though, or at least Digitimes did a short time ago.

As opposed to Advanced Micro Devices, the two had a good sixth month of 2012.

ASUS sold more entry-level and mainstream notebooks than it had expected, and this is the main reason why it scored record revenues of NT$36.02 billion (US$1.2 billion / €976 million). That was a monthly jump of 26.83% and an on-year boost of 27.46%.

As for the whole second quarter, the figure consolidated in NT$95 billion ($3.17 billion / €2.58 billion), or 4% more than in Q1.

4.4 million notebooks were sold in total (during April-June), along with 1.1 million Eee PC netbooks. 5.5 million motherboards helped with the last money figure as well.

The only products that disappointed were tablets, with a mere 600,000 units shipped in Q2, half of the 1.2 million target. As it is, 1.2 million is the number of slates sold during the entire first half of 2012.

Speaking of which, between January and June, ASUS shipped 8.5 million notebooks (only 10% are ultrabooks), two million netbooks and 11 million mainboards.

For its part, Pegatron got a record high, in June, of NT$65.83 billion ($2.19 billion / €1.78 billion), 5.4% higher on month and 44% better on year.

Q2 revenues ended up at a 29% advantage over Q1 and 78% better on year. The figure is NT$331.05 billion, or $11.05 billion / €8.99 billion.

The next few months will supposedly cause a drop in notebook orders, but Pegatron is still very optimistic of Q3 and Q4, believing revenue will keep moving up.
