T-Mobile Begins Android 4.0.3 Roll-Out for Galaxy S II

Wireless carrier T-Mobile started to deliver the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system upgrade to the owners of Galaxy S II devices on its network.

The upgrade will arrive on devices as software update T989UVLE1 and will be delivered through the Samsung Kies desktop application.

Following the update, Galaxy S II users will enjoy the Android 4.0.3 platform on their devices, along with a series of other enhancements that Samsung and T-Mobile have prepared for them.

“Beginning June 11 @ 11pm EST/ 8pm PST, the Samsung Galaxy S II will have an optional software update to Android version 4.0.3 / Software T989UVLE1 via Kies,” the wireless carrier notes in a post on its support website.

“This update changes the Android OS to Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS), and improves performance and stability. As previously announced the software update will only be available via Kies, there will not be an Over-The-Air (OTA) push.”

In addition to Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich, the update also comes to Galaxy S II handsets with a CMAS improvement, as well as with a series of enhancements to WiFi Calling and voicemail.

The mobile phone carrier also notes on its website that users need to have Android 2.3.6 software version T989UVKID/KL1/LDE update installed on their handsets in order to be able to upgrade them to the new platform release.

Moreover, they would also need to make sure that the battery inside their devices has been at least 50% charged, and that the Kies application was installed on their PCs (or Mac computers, if this is the case).

Provided that users have no computer to use for plying the ICS update, they will have to wait until another installation option is made available for them.

“The mandatory Gingerbread OTA update T989UVLDE is currently being pushed to devices that are not already on Android 2.3.6/ Software version T989UVLDE or Android version 4.0.3/ Software version T989UVLE1. This OTA already has the device performance updates,” T-Mobile notes.

Users who bump into issues while installing the update should contact Samsung for troubleshooting. For a step-by-step guide to installing the Ice Cream Sandwich update on Galaxy S II, head over to T-Mobile’s support website.
