You'll Be Able to "Mute" Google Ads Soon, Removing the Annoying Ones

Bad ads are no good to anyone. If you see an ad that is not relevant to you in any way you're not going to click on it. In fact, if it's annoying enough you may start avoiding the site you saw it on or whatever is being advertised. The advertisers get hurt and Google doesn't get paid.

So quality ads are important to everyone involved. Google has been doing some things to enable users to either indicate what ads they're interested in and what ads they don't like.

But is now finally doing it in a way that may actually work, by enabling users to "mute" ads. Display ads served via the Google network will get a small 'x' button enabling users to "remove" the ad when they stumble upon it.

That's no guarantee that you won't see the ad again, but Google is promising that it's going to use your preferences to learn and do better next time.
