Splinter Cell: Blacklist Shows Action Adventure Renaissance

Splinter Cell: Blacklist was one of the stars of the Ubisoft press conference during E3 2012, and the attention lavished upon the new game starring Sam Fisher is a sign that the entire action adventure genre is making a big comeback.

Patrick Redding, the game director for Splinter Cell: Blacklist, has told Game Reactor that, “I think something that we’re seeing is there’s been a real renaissance in action-adventure. And I think that we’re able to take a lot of the unique features of the Splinter Cell world and really embrace that opportunity.”

He added, “Players would like to have this kind of taut experience in a realistically rendered world, with a really good storyline, and with a hero who is lethal and efficient whose shoes they can step into, and I think we’ve got all three of those things.”

Splinter Cell: Blacklist introduces a number of major changes for the series, with the protagonist now leader of a new secret organization, following the events of Conviction.

The Fourth Echelon has extensive power and is tracking a number of terror organizations that are ready to attack America.

Fisher is able to execute his Mark and Execute moves and also has a new Kill and Drag melee based takedown, designed to allow him to execute guards quickly and then get them out of the way.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is using a new motion tracking technology to make the character moves more lifelike and Eric Johnson is the new actor who offers both the voice and the moves for Sam Fisher.

Anna Grimsdottir aka Grim will return for Blacklist while a number of new support cast members will be introduced.

Splinter Cell: Blacklist is currently set to arrive during an increasingly full spring season during 2013 for the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
