The Olsen twins, Mary Kate and Ashley, may have won over fashion gurus with their creations on The Row, but PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) is still against them – especially their recently released fur backpack.
As we also informed you the other day, one of the latest creations available on The Row is a backpack that retails for $17,000 (€13,678.7) and that is made of patches of fur.
PETA obviously disagrees, as it makes it clear in a statement to E! News.
The group believes the Olsens are nothing but cold-hearted trolls for still using fur and leather in their creations.
Naturally, trolls are also those who might spend a small fortune on the backpack.
“If it looks like a troll and acts like a troll, it's probably a Trollsen Twin – or someone wearing one of their new $16,000 totes [sic], which are made from the fur and skins of innocent animals,” the animal rights group says in the statement.
As PETA sees it, the only reason the Olsens are killing innocent animals is because they actually suck at being fashion designers.
“What the Olsens lack in creativity, they try to make up for in shock value. Sadly, it's the foxes, calves, and alligators – who often have the fur ripped off them while they are still conscious and able to feel pain – who pay the dearest price,” the statement further says.
The alligators PETA mentions here were killed to make yet another (in)famous Olsen backpack: released one year ago, it cost $39,000 (€31,380.7) and sold out in minutes, becoming a hit with The Row shoppers.
Of course, the Olsens aren't the only designers PETA has a longstanding feud with.
Kanye West (and his new girlfriend Kim Kardashian, too) is also on that list – presumably at the top of it, because he even dared respond to criticism by saying he planned on wearing fur for the rest of his life and there was nothing anyone could do to stop him.
