SoaSE Rebellion Diary: I Dont Play Well with Others

In space no one can hear you scream when your battleship or frigate goes down to a fiery death because of an enemy kinetic delivery system. But in the same space anyone can hear you negotiate as long as you are willing to invest in the appropriate tech tree while playing Sins of a Solar Empire – Rebellion.

Ambassador cruisers, which are able to move through the space of other factions without getting attacked, can park themselves near the planets of other players and then generate diplomacy points.

As long as the player is interested, he can easily put more resources in the appropriate research and then unlock the ability to give other players missions, which can be invaluable when playing with a large number of AI factions that are set on Hard or above that difficulty.

But I sincerely don’t have the time to handle diplomatic relations with strange aliens as long as I also have to deal with exploration, planet settlement and conquest.

I am not criticizing Sins of a Solar Empire for allowing players to do diplomatic moves and they certainly add an interesting dimension to the game, mainly for those players who are ready to turtle up, defend and get others to do their dirty business.

But I feel that, given the game setup options that Ironclad Games has offered, they could have given players options to turn off the Diplomacy part of the game in order to offer a purer experience for those who have played Sins since it was first launched.

Because of the diplomacy aspect, the research and the planet and system development many have called Sins of a Solar Empire a 4X game set in space, but this is actually a very well put together real-time strategy game that only uses the abovementioned systems to get players more to do.
