Google Maps for Android Updated with Offline Maps

Google has quietly updated its Maps application for Android devices with an important new feature, the possibility to save maps for later use.

The latest version of Google Maps will allow users to save any maps they need for use offline, thus avoiding mobile data charges and most importantly, roaming charges.

Unfortunately, the update does not come free of bugs. Several users who updated to the latest version reported that they cannot see their friends in latitude, and that the compass has stopped working.

Most negative reports are received from those who use ICS-based smartphones, but the general idea is that the update is broken and Google needs to iron out some bugs that are now plaguing its Maps app.

Google Maps is now available as free download via Play Store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 2.0 and up.
