Sony Is Satisfied with Vita Performance and Games

Video game publisher and hardware developer Sony believes that its recently launched PlayStation Vita handheld is doing well, if not spectacular, when it comes to sales and it has a solid slate of upcoming releases.

Scott Rohde, who is a senior vice president in charge of product development at Sony, has told Joystiq that, “We’re building a lot of additional titles internally. A lot of good third-party support, you saw that announced at our press conference.”

He went on to add, “So, we think that it’s certainly on the rise. Still doing well. Would we like it to do better? Of course. And we’re doing everything we can in terms of providing great new content – sixty titles next year – to ensure that that will happen. There are a lot of other bigger and smaller things that we just haven’t announced yet.”

The experiences that gamers should see released on the PlayStation Vita will include: PlayStation All-Stars, Madden, Assassin’s Creed, Street Fighter, Call of Duty and Sly Cooper.

There are also other smaller games that will arrive on the handheld and Sony is also keen to push the digital distribution side of the new hardware.

Rohde says that his only regret linked to the launch of the PlayStation Vita is that too many launch titles arrived at the same time and the first month could have been better if they had been more spread out, giving players a better chance to see what they have to offer.

The PlayStation Vita has been selling less than 10,000 units during a week in Japan and analysts believe that only a big price cut for the device might spur gamers to pick up the device in greater numbers.

During E3 2012, Sony focused on upcoming PlayStation 3 titles and offered limited information on the future of its handheld line.
