Semiconductor Industry in a Prolonged Downturn

Well-known market and industry analysis company Gartner Inc. has just announced that the worldwide semiconductor industry is currently in a downwards trend that will continue this year and the year after.

The company concluded this after looking at the worldwide wafer fab equipment spending that took place during the last months and that is planned to take place until the end of this fiscal year.

The amount of money spent on new equipment is actually 11% lower than what was spent during 2011, and the following year doesn’t seem to offer any improvement, but only a less dramatic decrease.

Garner estimates that in 2013 the spending will increase by 7.4% only when compared with this year. If we are to compare the results previsioned for 2013, we’ll still see them to be lower than the 2011 levels.
