The Programmable Google Doodle for Alan Turings Birthday

Google, along with the rest of the tech world is celebrating the birthday of Alan Turing, the father of modern computing. His contributions to the field of computer science only became known long after his death in 1954, by cyanide poisoning.

He was also a British wartime hero, being instrumental in the effort to decrypt the messages produced with the Nazi Enigma machine.

Google's way of saying thank you is with a complicated doodle which tasks you with "programming" it to modify a binary number to match a given one, one for each letter in the Google name. Each puzzle is increasingly hard, but once you figure out the simple elements, they're fun to work with.

"Turing’s insight laid the foundations of the computer age. It’s no exaggeration to say he’s a founding father of every computer and Internet company today," Google said in a blog post about the celebration.
