PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Gets PS Vita Version with Cross Play Support

Sony confirmed during its E3 2012 press conference that the upcoming PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale fighting game would also arrive on the PlayStation Vita handheld console and that it was going to feature Cross Play support, meaning Vita owners could fight against PS3 ones.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is certainly one of the most intriguing fighting games that are set to arrive later this year, throwing against one another all sorts of iconic characters, from Kratos or Sweet Tooth to Parappa the Rapper or the Fat Princess.

While the game was originally confirmed last month for the PlayStation 3, Sony has revealed earlier this week at its E3 2012 press conference that the game will also be out for the PS Vita handheld platform.

What’s more, this version of the game has Cross Play support, meaning owners of the portable console can play against PS3 users.

“The pick-up and play nature of PlayStation All Stars and the portable power of the PS Vita seem to be made for each other, so bringing the two together was a no-brainer. With Cross Play support, owners of the PS3 and PS Vita versions will be able to play against each other seamlessly, via both local and online play,” Sony said.

Both versions will retain a smooth 60fps framerate, while the Vita version features support for the touchscreen, the touchpad and even the special “near” app.

“Both versions of the game feature identical gameplay at a blazing-fast 60 frames-per-second, offering the complete PlayStation All-Stars experience. PlayStation All- Stars PS Vita takes advantage of many of the unique Vita features, including “near” functionality and both front touchscreen and rear touchpad support.”

Sony also confirmed that two new fighters had been added to the roster in Battle Royale, namely Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series and the Big Daddy from the BioShock franchise.

“Equally exciting of course is the announcement of two new characters: Uncharted’s Nathan Drake and BioShock’s Big Daddy. Nathan Drake is a true PlayStation star known to never miss an opportunity for adventure, making him a perfect addition to our roster. Big Daddy’s introduction may come as a surprise, but we think he’s a character that typifies the celebration that is PlayStation All-Stars. This deep sea giant packs a serious punch when he’s angry, offering a fun play style that’s fresh and exciting,” the company added.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale is set to appear later this year for the PS3 and PS Vita. Until then, check out a video of the game below.
