Electronic Arts has explained why the upcoming Overstrike shooter from Insomniac Games has skipped this year’s E3 2012 expo, saying that it wants to present a better version of the game later in the summer.
Insomniac Games became a multi-platform developer last year and the first game announced by the studio – Overstrike – is set to be published by EA.
Sadly for them, such a thing didn’t happen, as EA and Insomniac didn’t talk about the stylized shooter.
According to Frank Gibeau, the president of EA’s Labels division and overseer of its Partners program, of which Insomniac is a beneficiary, we’ll get to check out Overstrike later in the summer.
"We're very excited about Overstrike", told CVG. "It's a new IP and we want to make it the right game, so they're taking some extra time to nail the gameplay and the quality."
According to the EA executive, the Insomniac team is close to implementing an array of new things into Overstrike so it felt right to postpone a new reveal until everything was in tip-top shape.
"It felt like we would stand out better later in the summer once we've hit some key milestones and we're able to show off more," he added.
Gibeau also highlighted the success of its EA Partners program, through which the company is working with independent developers like Crytek, Respawn or Epic Games, as well as Insomniac.
"We've changed [EA Partners] from being a distribution business for music games to titles that we really get behind, like in this case Crysis 3," he said. "We've got a relationship with Respawn, we've got a relationship with Insomniac, we've got a relationship with Crytek... we're really pleased with our partners and we continue to look at opportunities that are out there to expand it. We had a great relationship with Epic on Bulletstorm too.”
Expect to hear more about EA’s different projects, including Overstrike, in the near future.
