Galaxy S III Pushed Back to June 27th in Canada

Galaxy S III, the latest flagship Android-based smartphone from Samsung, was expected to make an official appearance on shelves in Canada on June 20th, but that won’t happen.

Due to the impressive demand Samsung has registered for this device all around the world, the Canadian launch date has been pushed back for June 27th, a week later.

According to Samsung, it has seen carrier pre-orders of over 9 million units for this smartphone, and it’s having a hard time keeping up with demand.

Thus, it has decided to delay the phone’s release in some markets, to ensure that it will have enough units in stock to meet the initial wave of purchases.

In Canada, the Galaxy S III was expected to become available via most wireless carriers, and has been already made available for pre-order through them.

However, some retailers in the country announced not too long ago that they were halting reservations, so that they would be able to deliver the promised handsets to users.

The South Korean mobile phone maker has already issued a statement on the planned delay for the smartphone, and also confirmed the new targeted release date.

“Due to unprecedented global demand for the highly anticipated Samsung GALAXY S III, with more than 9 million carrier pre-orders to date, the date of availability for purchase of this device in Canada, is now June 27th,” said Samsung, according to MobileSyrup.

The company also underlined that Galaxy S III was currently up for pre-order through various carriers, and that users could also register online to receive updates on the phone’s landing.

“In advance of the GALAXY S III availability date, most carriers and retailers are offering customers the chance to register on-line for updates, and some partners are offering their customers the option to pre-order the Galaxy S III,” the company said.

“We expect any shortages to be short lived as we ramp up production to meet this unprecedented global demand.”
