Cool as a Cucumber Retina MacBook Pro Operates at 35 C

Footage taken with a thermal camera corroborates Apple’s claims that the new MacBook Pro with Retina display runs cool, as well as quietly, thanks to advancements in the technologies used to dissipate heat coming from the CPU and GPU.

Sure, the new MacBook Pro may have some display issues that Apple "forgot" to warn us about, but it does run as cool as cucumber – just as they promised.

Tested by Japanese site IT Media with an infrared camera, the new-generation MacBook Pro runs at a cool 30.3 degrees Celsius (86.54 Fahrenheit) in sleep mode, jumps to a still-comfortable 35.1 degrees (95.18 Fahrenheit) when playing a QuickTime movie, and reaches 48.2 degrees Celsius (118 Fahrenheit) when taken through the CPU-intensive Cinebench (with the fans outputting a meager 46 decibels).

Only when users run resource-demanding applications does the Pro get too hot to stay in your lap, the testers indicated.
