Blizzard Starts Banning Diablo 3 Hackers and Modders

Blizzard has officially started taking action against Diablo 3 players who resort to using hacks, bots, and other such modifications, confirming that it will ban their Battle.net accounts, meaning they won’t be able to log into them or play any games associated with that account.

Diablo 3 has been around for almost a month and, after solving errors with its Battle.net online service and releasing several patches, Blizzard has now started tackling the issue of security.

As you may have heard, quite a lot of Diablo 3 players have found out that nefarious individuals hacked their accounts and stole all of their in-game gold as well as their items.

While the studio said time and time again that its systems were secure, it has now started taking action against hackers who use third-party programs to alter the game.

“Blizzard Entertainment has always taken cheating in any form in Blizzard games very seriously, and that's no different for Diablo III,” the studio said.

“If a Diablo III player is found to be cheating or using hacks, bots, or modifications in any form, then as outlined in the Diablo III end user license agreement, that player can be permanently banned from the game. This means that the player will be permanently unable to log in to Battle.net to play Diablo III with his or her account.”

Blizzard advises players to keep their game clients clean and avoid any sort of program that impacts the actual gameplay.

“Playing Diablo III legitimately means playing with an unaltered game client. Doing otherwise violates our policies for Battle.net and Diablo III, and it goes against the spirit of fair play that all of our games are based on. We strongly recommend that you avoid using any hacks, cheats, bots, or exploits. Suspensions and bans of players that have used or start using cheats and hacks will begin in the near future.”

The banning spree is going to start soon and is no doubt correlated with the increase in security measures regarding the upcoming launch of Diablo 3’s Real-Money Auction House.
