ZTE Grand X with Android 4.0 ICS Coming Soon for 190 GBP (295 USD or 240 EUR)

Chinese handset maker ZTE mysteriously announced last week it would launch “one of the most advanced gaming smartphones” on July 18.

Today, the folks over at Engadget have just learned that ZTE plans to release an unannounced Grand X smartphone. At first glance, this is nowhere near ZTE’s claims, but we can surely say that it’s the most advanced Android smartphone in the company’s portfolio.

First of all, ZTE Grand X is powered by Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It may seem weird for a handset maker to choose an old chipset for its best product to date, but ZTE included an Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset inside the Grand X.

The phone is equipped with a 1 GHz dual-core processor and only 512MB of RAM, which makes us believe this is not the “advanced gaming smartphone” that ZTE was referring to several days ago.

In addition, the ZTE Grand X sports a 4.3-inch qHD LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports 540 x 960 pixels resolution, as well as 4GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.

There’s also a 5-megapixel camera on the back with autofocus and LED flash, as well as a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

Although the smartphone does not seem as impressive as we would expect it to be, at least it won’t require customers to break the bank in order to purchase it.

ZTE Grand X will be available soon in the UK from Virgin Mobile for only 190 GBP (295 USD or 240 EUR) on PAYG (pay as you go). We’re not sure whether the Grand X will be rolled out globally, but we will keep an eye out for additional info, so stay tuned for more updates on the matter.
