USGS Releases Innovative Map of US Northeast

Officials at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) announce that five more states have just been added to the 43 already mapped as part of the US Topo national map series. During the effort, maps for Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Vermont were updated.

The study was conducted in order to answer the ever-increasing demand for up-to-date coverage of various territories across the country. The new maps join the large US Topo set, which already featured 51,000 datasets covering 43 other states.

What separates the new data products from the old ones is that they contain data on rivers, lakes streams and other hydrography, as well as woodland tint derived from the National Land Cover Dataset, fire stations, hospitals, and state and county boundaries.

In addition, data on forest service boundaries, commercial roads, Forest Service roads and road numbers are also included.
