Simon Cowell: The Voice Is a Rip-Off of X Factor

X Factor US got off to a rather shaky start, but boss Simon Cowell thinks he knows what must be done to set things right again. However, this time, he's keeping mum on whatever changes he has in mind – because he's sick of having other producers steal his ideas all the time.

That there is no love lost between Cowell and pretty much everyone else in television, doing similar shows as his own (American Idol, The Voice) can't possibly be a secret.

In a new interview (cited by ThatGrapeJuice), Cowell casts diplomacy aside and namechecks The Voice by alleging that producers shamelessly ripped him off for ideas.

Because he knows this for a fact, season 2 of X Factor US will bring a lot of changes, which he won't reveal lest The Voice will also include them on the next season as well.

“I am. I’m not going to say what it is, because as you know we are going to be competing with The Voice,” the music mogul says.

“No question of doubt, I’ve already seen from last year to this year elements of what we were doing on these shows. Producers do that. They see something they like, and they’ll nick it and you end up with both shows looking the same,” Cowell further explains.

While he's clear on that The Voice stole from him, Simon doesn't want to go into specifics.

“I don’t even want to mention it. They know. Anyone who watches both shows, you’ll see where they started and where they got to and what changes. I have seen it on other shows, as well,” he says.

“Like I said, it’s the nature of TV producers, they will do it. We have been working on some ideas for a year, some may work, some won’t, but I am trying to make it different for the right reasons,” Cowell adds.

Fans of singing competitions the likes of The Voice and X Factor probably know already that the latter did not take off as planned in the US, even though, back home in the UK, it's the biggest thing on TV.

Season 1 ended with a bloodbath: the host and 2 judges were fired. Demi Lovato and Britney Spears are now in the judges' seats, with no word so far on who might be host.
