Scientology Urges Celebrity Members to Rally for PR Blitz

Never before has the Church of Scientology been so under the microscope and so ridiculed as it is today, after Katie Holmes filed for divorce from its most famous member, Tom Cruise. Leader David Miscavige is now prepping a PR blitz, according to a new report.

It’s been weeks since Katie filed the divorce papers in NYC but the media and the people at home are still focusing on the part Scientology might have played in her decision to “flee,” as we also noted on several previous occasions.

Since the attention Scientology is now getting is mostly negative, including jabs on late night TV and exposes on major networks such as NBC, Miscavige, the Church’s leader and Cruise’s good friend, is working on a plan to save face, says The National Enquirer in its latest print issue (story via CB).

Miscavige wants all celebrity members to step forward and defend Scientology in the press and, this way, shed some positive light on the cult.

“Scientology has never been hit this hard, this fast. The church is being made out to be a laughingstock, and Miscavige had a meltdown that his top draw, Tom Cruise, was being ridiculed across the globe,” a source close to the situation tells the tab.

Indeed, Scientology has always been in the spotlight with negative reports about it, but the scandal was never of this magnitude.

Miscavige believes celebrities could help turn things around again.

“Every one of these celebs, from John Travolta to Kirstie Alley, loves the church and will do anything to promote it,” explains the source.

“The plan is to embark on a $25 million public relations blitz in which the church will ‘pull back the curtains’ and be more open about its beliefs. As part of that initiative, the church is considering starting a Scientology cable TV channel, which will feature its biggest stars talking about the faith,” the tab writes.

In doing so, Scientology would become more transparent, the one thing it wasn’t before.

“The Scientologists are determined to help Tom. But they also want to protect the church’s reputation from further embarrassment,” the insider stresses.
