The second Samsung smartphone to feature built-in projector, Galaxy Beam has just been launched in India. The device is available exclusively though Samsung Smartphone Cafes for Rs 33,900 (610 USD or 500 EUR) outright.
Samsung Galaxy Beam may seem a bit overpriced, but customers should take into consideration the fact that there aren’t too many smartphone with built-on projectors available on the market.
Although the phone is more than capable to run Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich platform, Samsung did not reveal any plans to upgrade the Galaxy Beam. However, the South Korean company may offer more details on this one in the coming months.
With the Galaxy Beam, users will be able to display and share multimedia content anywhere on a large luminous projector screen or on a clear surface (walls). The phone features an ultra-bright 15 lumens projector and high-definition projection up to 50’’ wide at a distance of 2 meter.
On the inside, the device is equipped with a NovaThor U8500 chipset that packs a 1 GHz dual-core processor. There’s also 768MB of RAM and 8GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card.
Even though the Galaxy Beam embeds an nHD projector, the phone is only 12.5mm thin and weighs 145g (battery included).
Last but not least, the smartphone has a more than decent 4.0-inch capacitive touchscreen display that support 480 x 800 pixels resolution, a 5-megapixel rear camera with autofocus, LED flash and HD (720p) video recording, as well as a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls.
Samsung also included a high-capacity 2000 mAh Li-Ion battery, which should provide up to 760 hours of standby time or up to 20 hours of talk time (10 hours in 3G mode).
