Ouya Console Will Be As Small As a Rubiks Cube

Yves Behar, the lead hardware designer on the Ouya project, has revealed that the final version of the home console will be as small as a Rubik’s Cube, largely because it doesn’t feature bulky components like a disc tray.

Ouya, the Android-powered open home console that’s gathered huge amounts of money on crowdfunding website Kickstarter, is close to entering production, so the team behind it has begun sharing more details about the device.

According to its hardware designer, Yves Behar, the Ouya is designed specifically not to look like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360.

What’s more, its actual size is quite small “around the size of a Rubik’s Cube and so it will easily fit anywhere in a room, or be easy to throw in a backpack," according to the designer, who talked with Kotaku.

The console’s less than powerful configuration, which includes a Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core System-on-Chip processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage, no doubt helps the Ouya reach such a small size.

Expect to see an actual version of the console in the near future.
