Although Nokia decided to focus on Windows Phone, the Finnish company keeps flooding the emerging markets with entry-level feature-phones.
This is how the Asha series came to life. Aimed at emerging markets, Asha 300 was among the first devices in this feature-phones series, which was announced in October 2011 at Nokia World.
Previously known for its solidly built low-end phones, Nokia Asha phones were far from being impressive. Most customers who purchased these handsets complained about various software bugs, short battery life or other hardware issues.
However, some may not be impressed that such a cheap handset comes with a touchscreen especially that the Asha 300 features a 2.4-inch resistive display, not a capacitive one.
On the positive side, Nokia Asha 300 is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core processor and packs 128MB of RAM, 140MB of internal memory, as well as 256MB of ROM. There’s also a microSD card slot for memory expansion, so users will be able to further extend storage space up to 32GB.
Today, Nokia announced that a new software version is now available for Asha 300. The latest software update promises to bring lots of performance improvements as well as a handful of new features.
The key changes of the latest software release 7.49 are listed below:
- Nokia Browser 2.0;
- Contacts sync correction when switching from Nokia Symbian phones to Asha 300;
- Correction to displaying contact’s name for incoming calls;
- General usability and performance improvements;
- Time zone correction in Russia.
According to Nokia, the update will be available as an OTA (over the air) update for most regions where the Asha 300 has been launched. Still, users will also be able to update their phones through FOTA or Nokia Suite.
