LG Shows Cinema3D IPS Monitors

South-Korean electronics giant LG has just launched two new quality monitors that use IPS panels and have the ability to display 3D stereoscopic images. The new models are able to let the users enjoy 3D films and images without the need of special glasses.

IPS monitors are becoming more and more popular these days despite the fact that VA panels are quite a bit more affordable to make and offer similar performance and quality.

IPS is short for In-Plane Switching and this technology offers much better color reproduction than the ordinary TN LCD panels.

The viewing angles are also much better on IPS displays while the response time is quite a bit higher than what TN panels offer and this is a clear disadvantage for IPS.

The reason IPS panels are more popular than VA technology despite the fact that VA is cheaper, is that there are a lot of IPS production lines working nowadays as lots of mobile devices already use IPS.

When viewed in direct sunlight, IPS LCDs offer much better results than VA technology and it’s clear why so many mobile devices use IPS technology and not many manufacturers bothered with VA production lines.

The new additions to LG’s product line are D2743P-BN and BN-D2343P. The first one is a 27” model and the latter is a 23” monitor.

Both models feature the popular FullHD 1920 by 1080 pixel resolutions and are quite efficient as the average power consumption is under 30 watts.

The brightness level is a mediocre 250 cd/sqm and the contrast ratio is set at the ordinary 1000 : 1 level. In dynamic mode, the contrast can reach 5 million to 1.

On the connectivity side, the new monitors come with DVI-D, HDMI, D-Sub connectors.
