Japan: 3DS and Vita Drop Sales, Black & White 2 Perseveres

Despite encouraging signs during the previous week the PlayStation Vita has once again failed to make solid progress on the Japanese hardware market, while the Nintendo 3DS continues to lead, and Pokemon Black & White 2 is still the best when it comes to video game sales.

The Nintendo 3DS has managed to sell 51,930 devices during the week that ended on July 9, which is a decline when compared to the 65,267 that it managed during the previous week.

The PlayStation 3 home console from Sony has managed to recuperate its usual second place, with sales of 14,297 for the week, dropping a little over 2,000 units when compared to the previous seven-day period.

The PlayStation Vita handheld has seen the biggest drop of the tracked period, coming from 22,638 units moved to player to just 11,544, suggesting that the launch of the Crystal White version of the device cannot sustain increased sales in the long term.

The older PSP has also lost some sales, moving 10,627 devices to players, which is better than the Nintendo Wii, with 6,654 and a slight decline, the Xbox 360, the Nintendo DSi and the PS2.

In the video game chart Pokemon Black & White 2 has continued to perform very well, with sales of 181,756 copies, which have brought its overall total over the 2,2 million mark since launch on the home market.

The newly launched Etrian Odyssey IV, from Atlus and for the Nintendo 3DS, has performed good during its release week and sits in second place, with sales of 97,142, while the last position on the podium has been taken over by Little Battler eXperience Baku Boost, another 3DS title, which moved 55,614 copies to players.

The rest of the top ten is made up of: Toriko Gourmet Survival 2, Run For Money: Flee From the Strongest Hunters in History, Dragon Quest Monsters Terry's Wonderland 3D, Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Anarchy Reigns, Culdcept and Mario Party 9.
