Made official in late June, the Nexus 7 is the first device to be shipped with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system. Google announced the next version of its mobile platform more than three weeks ago and confirmed the first devices to receive the upgrade in the following weeks.
The search giant stated that Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S and Motorola XOOM would be among the first to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update, while the Nexus 7 would come with Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean platform out of the box.
In the meantime, Google launched the hotly anticipated Nexus 7 tablet in North America and the UK. However, it looks like the company clearly underestimated the high demand and is now in the position to stop sales of the 16GB model.
The Nexus 7 16GB is currently unavailable in the Google Play store, and already sold out at GameStop, Kmart, Sam’s Club, Office Depot, Staples, B&H, and Best Buy in Canada. Customers in the UK won’t be able to purchase it either as Tesco’s stock has been depleted.
Manufactured by Asus, Nexus 7 was introduced on the market for a suggested retail of $249 USD (205 EUR) for the 16GB model, and $199 USD (165 EUR) for the 8GB version.
Those who still want to grab the first Android 4.1 Jelly Bean device can still do so by purchasing the 8GB variant, which is still available via Google Play store.
For the time being, customers who wish to buy the 16GB model will have to wait a bit longer. In order to get the latest info on the slate’s availability, customers will have to sign up to be notified by e-mail when it’s back in stock.
