Eastern Kiang Herd Has Three New Members

The Highland Wildlife Park in Scotland recently witnessed the birth of three eastern kiang foals. Thus, the herd now comprises eleven members.

Although not yet listed as an endangered species, kiangs did experience a steady decline in their population throughout the past years, primarily of a result of humans using their natural habitats as agricultural lands.

This species belongs to the horse family and is native to the Tibetan plateau. Once they’re grown, the eastern kiangs can be as much as 4.5 feet (1,42 meters) high and weigh a staggering 880 pounds (400 kilograms).

Like most other herbivores, the foals born to this Scottish herd were able to run within hours after being born, a feature that is crucial out in the wild, where they are under constant threat of predatory attacks.

However, seeing how they live in said wildlife park, the foals can now use their newly developed agility to play.
