Defense Grid 2 Seeks Funding on Kickstarter

Hidden Path Entertainment, the developer of the successful Defense Grid: The Awakening, has started seeking funding for a full-fledged sequel – Defense Grid 2 – on popular website Kickstarter, offering special goodies to those who pledge their support, including DLC for the original game.

Defense Grid: The Awakening delivered a top-notch tower defense experience and was supported by an array of downloadable content, which brought new maps and challenges to the already impressive game.

Now, Hidden Path wants to deliver a full-fledged sequel but it requires help from fans in order to fund the game.

As such, the studio has opened a Kickstarter project in which fans can pledge their support and money for the new game, which is set to include a new storyline, as well as more modes and other such content.

"The fans – from games players to developers – have been very vocal in their desire for a brand new Defense Grid experience. A great sequel is our passion, too. It's a major undertaking, but the beauty of it is that every contributor will be part of its creation," explains Jeff Pobst, CEO of Hidden Path Entertainment.

As always, this Kickstarter project allows fans to pledge different amounts of money and earn all sorts of rewards for their support, ranging from actual games to T-shirts, posters, and special prizes from AMD, consisting of graphics cards, and gaming mice from Razer.

Different goals have been set and the highest, at $1 million (€817,000), guarantees the creation of Defense Grid 2.

- At $250,000, Hidden Path will release Defense Grid: Containment, an eight-level expansion for the original game (PC, Steam) featuring an all-new storyline.
- At $500,000, they will complete the new engine for Defense Grid 2, and release the first-ever co-op multiplayer mode for Defense Grid online play (DRM-free, PC, Steam).
- At $750,000, they'll release a level editor for players to create their own Defense Grid challenges that anyone can play, as well as add more multiplayer content, cheat protection to the leader boards, and everything will be released on Mac and Linux.
- At $1 million, Hidden Path will complete Defense Grid 2 for PC, Mac, and Linux (on Steam, where supported and DRM free).
