Archos may soon, or not so soon, release a tablet whose hardware doesn't make much sense but which might still warrant a few closer looks, depending on just what the hardware configuration is.
The folks at Notebook Italia have posted the results of a certain GL Benchmark. This would not really demand news coverage, but there is one certain detail that caught people's eye.
The thing that people should pay most mind to is the resolution said to be possessed by the liquid crystal display: Full HD, 1,920 x 1,080. Granted, the report says 1,920 x 1,008, but that's more than likely just a typo.
At any rate, this resolution, while very rare on tablets, is not really all that shocking on its own, not with Retina displays gaining traction.
The reason for all the attention is the fact that Archos intends LUDO G10 to be a budget tablet instead of a mainstream/cheap one.
Nevertheless, having a Full HD panel on an underpowered tablet would be a real waste. On this, everyone on the net seems to agree.
That said, the best general guess, for the moment, is that the CPU/SOC running the slate will be the Texas Instrument OMAP 4470.
A dual-core CPU based on the ARM architecture, it is the next best thing after NVIDIA's Tegra 3 and has already been shown running Windows RT (Windows 8 for ARM). Its clock frequency is 1.8 GHz.
As for the graphics rendering side of the equation, the PowerVR SGX554 GPU should be able to push even that Full HD panel mildly hard.
No clue when availability will ramp up, or what price this “budget” tablet will be slapped with, but the OS will probably be Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.
